Problem with Lip Products and even some lip care at home
I’m ADDICTED to lip glosses, lip balms, lipstick but I also need a really good lip care at home.
Do you have dry, flaky, crusty lips? And it doesn’t matter how often you reapply during the day or at bedtime, your lips are so dry you THINK that if we slather on petroleum jelly, you’re doing what’s best for your lips. There nothing further from the truth!!!
Let’s think about that word. PETROLEUM! Doesn’t that sound like the same thing we put in our car to make it run????? We should NEVER put these commonly found ingredients anywhere near our mouth.
Here they are:
Parabens: This is also true of any skin care and hair care products. Get this out of your cabinet or vanity!!! It’s one of the first ingredients we see in lip balms. Its used in fragrances or flavors in many lower quality lip products and especially products marketed towards younger customers. I don’t want my teenage old daughter putting it on her lips! Tinted lip balm found in the beauty aisle are also big culprits for synthetic fragrances. They make the product more “tasty”. YUCK!
Petrolatum
Back to the petroleum jelly at night. NO! Petrolatum, petroleum jelly and mineral oil are derived from petroleum. Since the process for producing petrolatum often requires use of synthetic chemicals, the odds of petrolatum becoming contaminated by these toxins is relatively high. So stay away, and certainly don’t sleep with it on your mouth!
Synthetic Colors
Synthetic colors are popular in tinted balms or simply added to products for visual appeal. They are byproducts of our friend above, petroleum, and are often sourced from heavy metals or coal-tar (again YUCK). Therefore, are best to avoid. And, think about this! Many common red dyes come from crushed bug carcasses! So you’re putting but carcasses on your mouth!! Um, NO!
BHA
Another no-no is BHA. BHA is a preservative included in many cosmetics but research on test animals has proven that it might cause cancer, so I don’t want or use it on my lips or skin. You should keep a close eye out for both BHA and its cousin, BHT since both are on ingredient lists in some of the ‘healthier’ lip balms. We don’t want this anywhere on our skin, much less around our mouth and lips!
Here’s your solution:
