Ok, so we’ve all experienced breakage when wearing our hair up in a ponytail.  UGH!   There is nothing more frustrating than realizing we have breakage at the back of our crown and knowing that we did it ourselves by wearing our hair up in a ponytail!  There are a couple ways to prevent this. 

First and foremost, we need a hair care line that will not dry out our hair so always avoid products with parabens, sulfates and harsh chemicals. 

Second, use a ponytail holder which goes easy on your hair.  Never use nylons.  I know, we grew up using them and we all thought it was great when the fat ones came out because they “don’t break your hair”.  Well we all learned the hard way!! 

Here are my favorite ponytail holders that really go easy on your hair.

Twistytails or Teleties:  I LOVE LOVE these things.  We’ve all seen them, just not necessarily on the hair care aisle of your local drug store. I usually see them used as a key ring, especially for lockers at my gym. 

EmyJays: ANOTHER FAVE!  These are great.  They are ribbons and have no rubber band-like edges that will grab and rip your hair.  And they’re always really cute!!  Emy Jay is a brand but I’m using here like you would use “band-aid” for any adhesive bandage.  There are many other brands for these kink free, ribbon ponytail holders and you can find them EVERYWHERE!!

Last but not least, L. ERICKSONS!!!  My 11 year old daughter uses these and  is in LOVE with them!  In fact, she’s the first person who told me about them!  And I have to say, she convinced me.  They come in all colors and are very gentle on your hair.
